Air Fryer Apple Pie Bombs are amazing! The sweet biscuit dough filled with apple pie filling, air-fried until golden brown, and then coated in ground sugar and cinnamon–absolutely delicious!
I love a great homemade treat, and so do my kids. There is nothing better than making something special for breakfast, and although this is not completely homemade. The kids appreciate it, and I love it.
I love baking, I always have, and I can bake these up perfectly in minutes with my air fryer!
What Are Air Fryer Apple Pie Bombs?
Apple pie bombs are nothing more than biscuit dough (usually store-bought) filled with an apple pie filling. The dough is then wrapped around the pie filling and then air-fried.
Today, I dipped the air-fried pie bombs into a sweet and savory coating of granulated sugar and ground cinnamon!
I have been making them for years, my mother used to make them in the oven, and I believe she found the original recipe on a package of biscuit dough from Pillsbury.
Some Pro Tips:
- One of the most important steps is to use your fingers and really pinch the ends, so the pie filling does not leak out.
- If you find that dough frequently sticks to your basket, use a piece of parchment paper to line the basket.
- You can use homemade biscuit dough, and the recipe will remain the same.
Can I Make These In The Oven?
Yes, my mother was making it for years. Before I even knew what an Air Fryer was, they are easy to make and are a great baking project for the kids.
Make them as directed, place them on a greased baking sheet, place them into a preheated oven at 375 degrees F, and bake for 15 to 17 minutes.
After they are baked, dip them into melted butter, and roll into the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
What Biscuits Do You Use For These?
Since you need to separate the biscuits, you should really use Grands by Pillsbury since the dough splits easily.
If you only have regular biscuits, don’t worry about splitting them, as it will not be an easy process. However, this will increase your cooking time by a couple of minutes since your dough is thicker.
How To Store And Reheat
These do not store well, but if you do have any, let them cool to room temperature, and then place them into a Ziploc Bag.
Leave them at room temperature, where they will lest a day or two.
If you would like to warm them up before serving, either heat them in the microwave for a couple of seconds or heat them in the air fryer at 300 degrees F, air fryer setting for 1 to 2 minutes.
What Other Fillings Can I Use?
Once you make these, you will want to keep on making them, and they are so good. My kids and I have experimented with the following, with great results:
Note: You can not use jams as it is too thin, and will not give you the same taste.
- Cherry Pie Filling
- Peach Pie Filling
- Blueberry Pie Filling
- Almond Pie Filling
- Raspberry Pie Filling
