Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Batter
  1. In a bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, mix buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and honey until well combined.
  3. Combine wet and dry ingredients, stirring until just mixed. Let sit for 5 minutes.
Step 2: Shape and Fill (Optional)
  1. Using your hands or a cookie scoop, shape into small balls. Insert jalapeño, cheese, or bacon if desired.
Step 3: Fry or Air Fry
  1. For frying: Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry poppers in batches 2–3 minutes until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  2. For air fryer: Spray poppers lightly with oil and air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 8–10 minutes, turning halfway.
Step 4: Serve
  1. Drizzle with extra honey butter and serve warm.
