Instructions
Step 1: Prepare Batter
- In a bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and honey until well combined.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients, stirring until just mixed. Let sit for 5 minutes.
Step 2: Shape and Fill (Optional)
- Using your hands or a cookie scoop, shape into small balls. Insert jalapeño, cheese, or bacon if desired.
Step 3: Fry or Air Fry
- For frying: Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry poppers in batches 2–3 minutes until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- For air fryer: Spray poppers lightly with oil and air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 8–10 minutes, turning halfway.
Step 4: Serve
- Drizzle with extra honey butter and serve warm.
