Step 1: Make the Batter
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another large bowl, beat together oil and sugar until well combined. Add egg and mix.
- Mix in buttermilk, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar.
- Gradually stir in the dry ingredients until smooth.
Step 2: Air Fry the Cake
- Grease a 6-inch round baking pan that fits in your air fryer.
- Pour the batter into the pan (do not fill more than halfway).
- Air fry at 320°F (160°C) for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool completely on a wire rack before frosting.
Step 3: Prepare the Frosting
- In a bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.
- Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Mix until fluffy and spreadable.
Step 4: Assemble the Cake
- Slice the cooled cake horizontally into two or three layers (optional).
- Spread frosting between layers and over the top and sides of the cake.
- Decorate with cake crumbs or sprinkles if desired.
