Instructions

Step 1: Make the Batter
  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. In another large bowl, beat together oil and sugar until well combined. Add egg and mix.
  3. Mix in buttermilk, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar.
  4. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients until smooth.
Step 2: Air Fry the Cake
  1. Grease a 6-inch round baking pan that fits in your air fryer.
  2. Pour the batter into the pan (do not fill more than halfway).
  3. Air fry at 320°F (160°C) for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  4. Let the cake cool completely on a wire rack before frosting.
Step 3: Prepare the Frosting
  1. In a bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.
  2. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Mix until fluffy and spreadable.
Step 4: Assemble the Cake
  1. Slice the cooled cake horizontally into two or three layers (optional).
  2. Spread frosting between layers and over the top and sides of the cake.
  3. Decorate with cake crumbs or sprinkles if desired.
