Step 1: Prepare the Batter
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, butter, milk, and egg.
- Beat the mixture well until smooth and creamy.
Step 2: Assemble the Pie
- Pour the batter into a well-greased 9-inch pie plate, spreading it evenly.
- Spoon the fruit pie filling into the center of the batter, keeping about 1 inch of space from the edge.
- Do not stir — the crust will form “crazy” patterns as it bakes!
- Sprinkle the top with sugar, or cinnamon-sugar if using apple or peach filling.
Step 3: Bake
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35–40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
Step 4: Serve & Enjoy
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an old-fashioned treat.
