Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Batter
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, butter, milk, and egg.
  3. Beat the mixture well until smooth and creamy.
Step 2: Assemble the Pie
  1. Pour the batter into a well-greased 9-inch pie plate, spreading it evenly.
  2. Spoon the fruit pie filling into the center of the batter, keeping about 1 inch of space from the edge.
  3. Do not stir — the crust will form “crazy” patterns as it bakes!
  4. Sprinkle the top with sugar, or cinnamon-sugar if using apple or peach filling.
Step 3: Bake
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 35–40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and cooked through.
  2. Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
Step 4: Serve & Enjoy
  1. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an old-fashioned treat.
