STEP 1: Prepare the Cabbage Leaves
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
- Carefully remove the core from the cabbage.
- Place the whole cabbage into boiling water and peel off leaves as they soften (about 2–3 minutes each).
- Set softened leaves aside to cool.
STEP 2: Make the Filling
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, cooked rice, egg, minced onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika.
- Mix until evenly combined — do not overmix.
STEP 3: Roll the Cabbage
- Trim the thick stem area from each cabbage leaf to make rolling easier.
- Place 2–3 tablespoons of filling in the center of each leaf.
- Fold the sides inward and roll tightly like a burrito.
STEP 4: Make the Tomato Sauce
- In a bowl, mix together tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, brown sugar, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
STEP 5: Assemble & Bake
- Spread a layer of tomato sauce onto the bottom of a baking dish.
- Place cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish.
- Pour remaining sauce over the rolls.
- Cover tightly with foil.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 75 minutes, until tender and fully cooked.
