Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper until well combined. Shape into patties.
- In a skillet over medium heat, brown the beef patties on both sides, then transfer to a baking dish.
- In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté mushrooms until tender. Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir to coat.
- Gradually stir in beef broth and thyme. Cook until the gravy thickens.
- Pour the mushroom gravy over the beef patties in the baking dish.
- Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the top of the steak and gravy.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top of the mashed potatoes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.

- Use Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes for the creamiest mashed topping.
- For additional flavor, sauté onions with mushrooms before making the gravy.
- If you like extra crust, top the casserole with more cheese before baking.
