Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar and yeast in warm water. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix until a dough begins to form, then turn it out onto a floured surface and knead for 6-8 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Divide the dough into 10 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then flatten into a disc using a rolling pin.
  7. Place the discs on the prepared baking sheet and bake for about 8-10 minutes, or until they puff up and are lightly golden.
  8. Remove from the oven and cool on a wire rack.

Chef’s Tips

  • Ensure the water is warm but not hot to activate the yeast properly.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free place for best results.
  • For extra flavor, brush the bread with olive oil and sprinkle with herbs before serving.
