If you are looking for a recipe for cherry pie recipe easy, this is it, it’s easy, and it is delicious. I love a great Air Fryer Puff Pastry Recipe, and this happens to be one of my favorites!

Air Fryer Best Cherry Turnovers
Cherry turnovers actually have many names; you can call them Air Fryer Cherry Hand Pies, Mini Air Fryer Cherry Pies, or simply a great Air Fryer Cherry Tart Pastry.

Everyone in my house loves a great Arby’s sandwich, and for a dessert, when my kids were small, we used to get them each an Apple or Cherry Turnover, so when I got my air fryer, I thought to myself, I can do that! And I did!

They are super simple to make, and the air fryer does an amazing job with Puff Pastry!

Puff Pastry Tips
How to Roll and Seal Puff Pastry
Once you have the pastry dough together, use your fingers and pinch. If you need any help, I usually run a pastry brush and add some water (very little, less than a teaspoon) so that the two sides fold in together.

Air Fryer Temperature
I use 360 degrees F air fryer setting for these Air Fryer Pastries.

How Long to Cook/Cook Time
I found that an average time would be about 6 to 8 minutes.

Puff Pastry Tips

  • Cherry Turnovers can also be cooked in an oven if desired. Preheat the oven to 475 degrees F, and cook in an oven-proof pan for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Thes cherry turnvoers are aeweome served pie ala mode. They are also delicious with whipped cream and more cherries, or if preferred, they are enjoyed as they are without any toppings.
  • If preferred, you can fold the pastry squares into triangles and the edges sealed with a fork or pinched with fingers instead of making dumpling shapes. All other steps would remain the same.
  • For best results, thaw the puff pastry in the refrigerator, so it’s cold.

How to Substitute Puff Pastry
A great substitute would be either croissant, crescent dough, or biscuit dough. They will not puff up as the puff pastry dough does.

Filling Flavor Substitutes
Any canned pie filling can be subsiutties, some of my favorites are:

  • Peach Pie Filling
  • Raspberry Pie Filling
  • Nutella
  • Cream Cheese
  • Strawberry
  • Apple

How to Keep them Crispy
The best way to keep the dough flaky and crispy, like puff pastry should be would be to spray or brush melted butter on top.

How to Store the Turnovers
The best way to store turnovers is to let them cool to room temperature and place them in an airtight container.

Place the container into the refrigerator. They will last about 3 to 4 days.

Freezer Tips
If you want to make a batch ahead of time and freeze them, that’s so easy to do. What I do is make a whole bunch and freeze them.

Make the puff pastry turnovers, cool to room temperature, and then place on a baking sheet. Pop the baking sheet into the freezer, and when they are frozen solid, remove, and place it into a freezer-safe container.
